5 star(s) - Change M'dear - The Adventure Continues...

You can all relax now, Matt Smith is BRILLIANT as The Doctor. What is shaping up to be a marvellous series, this DVD contains the first three adventures of The Eleventh Doctor. Kicking off in bombastic style is 'The Eleventh Hour', a feature length episode introducing the new Doctor and his companion, Amy Pond, brilliantly played by Karen Gillan. Within minutes you should fall in love with Matt Smith's portrayal of the 900-something year old Timelord - his awkward, jerky mannerisms and rich tone of voice, he certainly takes the role somewhere different from more recent predecessors, Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant. The Eleventh Hour is great fun, with some genuine laugh out loud moments courtesy of Steven Moffat. We then move on to the Starship UK in the second episode of the series 'The Beast Below'. With generally creepy villains, The Smilers, and sassy heroine Liz Ten, 'The Beast Below' is a pleasant episode that has some touching moments.
Our next trip in time and space is an adventure that seems to have divided much fan opinion, 'Victory of the Daleks' by Mark Gattis is not, I repeat NOT a dark, chilling, War epic as many believed it to be. Gattis delivers a romp and a bloody good romp it is too! Daleks serving tea, a Spitfire dogfight in Space with a Dalek saucer and yet another stand out performance from Matt Smith, Victory of the Daleks is not as bad as some would make out. The main problem here are the new Daleks, chunkier, taller and colourful, some have criticised, moaned and complained about the new design, however I think if something like that generally 'bothers' you, you really need to grow up.

Overall a great start to the Eleventh Doctor, and I honestly cannot praise enough the brilliance of Matt Smith as The Doctor.

5 star(s) - Doctor Who

Well, I disagree completely to some of the other comments here...
Matt Smith has done an amazing job, and I didn't think I would like him after having David Tennant, but he surprised me.
He puts alot of effort into his work, and he's funny aswell.
He started this series with a bang, and I personally can't wait for the rest of the series with him as our Doctor :) Thumbs up for me :)

5 star(s) - Lovin Series 5

I'm thoroughly enjoying this latest incarnation of Dr Who. The writing is definitely and more consistently tighter than on previous Nu Who series and surley we've had a higher percentage of strong stories per season here than ever before? Well done Moffatt! Matt is brilliant, Gillian is sexy and the show continues to rock! Series 6 - BRING IT ON!!

5 star(s) - Geronimo!!!!!

This review is intended for the series as a whole rather than for this individual dvd, since I intend to buy the entire box-set when it becomes available. And what a ride it has been! I have read a few negative reviews here, and I am frankly amazed since I think this series has been the very best so far, since 1963. I was as upset as everyone else at the departure of David Tennant, and I wondered how anyone could follow him, but Matt Smith is Da Man!

I have found this series mesmerising in a way that the previous four series' have not. RTD and DT were both brilliant, and I mourned their leaving along with every other Doctor Who fan, but I find that I am loving Matt SMith's performance so much, I haven't missed David Tennant even once.

David Tennant was in my view the best Doctor ever....but sorry sir, in my opinion Matt Smith has stolen the crown. I love his bold choices in making his Doctor totally new, and totally bonkers. He is an incredibly talented actor. With a simple movement of the eyes he can change his whole expression, showing fear and anger one moment, and excitement or grief the next, and without being overly extrovert or `in-your-face' like his predecessor. I admit I didn't take to Amy straight away, but Karen Gillan too had won me over by the end of the fourth episode.

The stories this season have been second to none. With the brilliant brain of Steven Moffat at the helm who could expect anything less? He has not been afraid to bring in the very best writers from outside either. Richard Curtis' story `Vincent and the Doctor' was the most touching story I have seen in a long while, and the performances of the three principal actors held me spellbound. Simon Nye's story `Amy's Choice' was another brilliant piece of work all round.

The first three episodes that are on this dvd are great, but personally I would recommend waiting and getting the whole thing along with all the extras that will come along with it. The word is another series is commissioned and begins filming in a few weeks. I can't wait for series Six!

Long may the eleventh Doctor reign!

5 star(s) - Best new series so far.

The new Dr Who team have done a fantastic job on Series 5 (or 1). Matt Smith had a tough act to follow and I thought he does a great Doctor. My 6 year old nephew think's he the best. Karen Gillan's 'Amy' is the hottest of the new series chicks and her and Matt are perfect.
The stories don't seem campish, Cardiffish as the previous four season's were. 'The Eleventh Hour' is all the best start yet to the series. 'The Beast Below' erm moving on. The third story with the new Dalek's was very good story. The new Dalek's are superb in design and colour.
