5 star(s) - A remake of a classic horror

The images presented in the film are certainly disturbing but the film left me more unsettled by the build up of the characters and their subsequent degradation. The two female leads are played well and both give strong performances.

There are some quirky things about the film that i want to share:

I am pretty sure that the youngest of the 'criminals' plays the kid in Gladiator, if not they look very similar.

The daughter of the Collingwoods is in Superhero movie, bit of a role change.

I think this film stands up to the original, which was shot on a low budget and suffered as a result, and is worth a look if you like modern horror remakes.

5 star(s) - Great Movie Great story

Having watched the original years ago which at the time was very disturbing i didnt think the remake would be any good. I am happy to say after watching the film last night, it was great and well better than the original. Well worth the money,it has everything a good horror movie should have, it keeps you on the edge of your seat

5 star(s) - top

ich find den Film nicht wirklich horrormäßig, aber dafür sehr spannend hat sich gelohnt sich den Film zukaufen weil es ihn in dieser Version auch nicht in Deutschland bekommt

5 star(s) - A Horror for Your Eyes and Mind

I have a vague memory of the original Last House on the Left (which I watched at least 15 years ago) as being a bit too brutal and exploitative and not particularly good. I wasn't planning on rushing to watch this until I read in Fangoria that Stephen King said it was one of the movies that scared him most. I was not disappointed -this remake was great. It is pacy and full of tension; there is still enough brutality to give it a gritty edge and the visual effects are very good. As for the alleged poor quality on Blu-ray which other reviewers have commented on, well I just didn't see it as a problem. Much of the film is played out in the dark which obviously does not provide the best picture but to me the picture was very good - I have just put it back on to check and there really isn't a problem. I judge a movie on how it engages me; Last House had me gripped from start to finish and the movie seemed to fly by in the blink of an eye. Therefore I can only warrant giving it 5 stars. It is probably a one watch film though, so perhaps better to rent.

5 star(s) - Probably one of the most disturbing movies of all time but with a satisfactory outcome....

I have to admit that I love a good horror film. But, sometimes this genre of film can be spoilt with predictable horror clichés, an ending destined for sequel hints and actors that don't give a character justice. I am pleasantly surprised to say this one shocked the living daylights out of me and I was hiding behind the pillow most of the way.

The storyline had good depth and loved the way that most scenes were connected and were later included into a major part of the story's outcome.

The acting is fantastic - not one character can be considered "cheesey" - they all deliver beyond what a script can layout.

I will admit a few of the scenes did make me very near sick to my stomach due to graphic nature of the filming and scenario played out so well with the actors involved. However, that makes the film's intensity and the beauty of the end result much more satisfying.
