- A masterpeice of martial arts animation
This is a stunning piece of martial arts animation. There is beauty in every frame of its 12 episodes; an exquisite attention to detail that will excite the film buff and the anime aficionado. There is beauty even in the most extreme violence and, yes, a playful humour too. The plot, which mostly runs backwards, is not always easy to follow, but patience and perseverence will be rewarded. The tone is solemn but never pretentious. The music is suitably austere: snappy percussion, searing strings and something that sounds like a Japanese sho add gravitas to the production. The extras are a little bit light for a work of this importance, but the vocal cast do their best to entertain and inform. If, by any chance, you are an admirer of Mizoguchi, Kurosawa or even Teshigahara, then 'Shigurui: Death Frenzy' will mostly certainly be a necessary purchase. As animation goes this is up there with the best of Norstein, and the Blu-ray picture is awesome.
- Best of Anime?
I have to say I'm a huge sci-fi Anime fan, HUGE ...
But this one from the feudal japan is absolutely master piece. One of the best animes I have ever seen. Get ready for some disturbing images, and for the fact that you have to watch all over to get the whole story, but if you love anime and you hadn't seen this series, blu-ray is the way to go ...
- For mature audience
Well, I appreciate the terrible and slow story. Horrible and poetic but great.
Extreme violence in psychology and acts.
Absolutely not for children.
