- Very moving - outstanding acting - one to watch again
My Sister's Keeper [DVD] [2009]
I loved the book so much that I was not sure whether I wanted to see the film - however it is excellent, extremely well acted and directed. The ending of the film was different from the book, but it was logical and didn't detract at all.
Kate is sick, and her parents have an IVF baby, Anna, as a genetic match for Kate so that Anna can donate blood, bone marrow, whatever is necessary to save her sister's life. Eventually Kate becomes sick enough that Anna is expected to donate one of her kidneys to her sister, and she turns to a lawyer to gain medical emancipation from her parents.
Truly superb acting by all. Sofia Vassilieva was splendid as Kate, and Abigail Breslin as Anna. Cameron Diaz, as a fraught mother doing her best to keep her daughter alive by any means, is totally believable - so good to see her in a more stretching role than usual. Alec Baldwin as the lawyer, with health problems of his own, was inspired.
I first watched this in the cinema, and the whole audience was totally caught up in the emotions of the characters - the only sound was quiet sniffling. Very moving and definitely worth watching again.
- Heart touching
This film gives a great insight to how cancer can effect all members of a family. It really touched my heart when I saw this film in the cinema, and judging by the ammount of people that left the cinema with red puffy eyes, I am sure that it also touched them. To be honest its the type of film that you don't forget quickly after watching it.
- Lovely film but be prepared to cry!
I wanted to see this film after seeing the previews but was unsure how good it would be as some of the reviewers were disappointed. I haven't read the book so didn't have that to compare to and I really enjoyed this film but had a frog in my throat during the whole film and cried throughout it. It is such a lovely story but heart-breaking at the same time as any films involving cancer are hard for me to watch. One thing I would say is that the previews gave too much away, sometimes they tend to show almost the whole film on previews, so if you haven't already - avoid watching the previews and just watch the film instead. I would have been interested to know how the original story ended in the book as reviewers who read the book said that the ending was changed in the film. I didn't find anything wrong with the ending and found that the film was wrapped up well but I obviously can't compare it to the original. Thought all the actors were brilliant and couldn't fault this film. I could definately watch this film again but only when I'm in the mood for a film that will make me cry!
- To Life A Life
This was a nice surprise of a movie. It had a real sad tone, and a twist to make you think. Great watch.
