Amazon.co.uk Review

Nearly 20 years after riding his last Crusade, Harrison Ford makes a welcome return as archaeologist/relic hunter Indiana Jones in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, an action-packed fourth installment that's, in a nutshell, less memorable than the first three but great nostalgia for fans of the series. Producer George Lucas and screenwriter David Koepp (War of the Worlds) set the film during the cold war, as the Soviets--replacing Nazis as Indy's villains of choice and led by a sword-wielding Cate Blanchett with black bob and sunglasses--are in pursuit of a crystal skull, which has mystical powers related to a city of gold. After escaping from them in a spectacular opening action sequence, Indy is coerced to head to Peru at the behest of a young greaser (Shia LaBeouf) whose friend--and! Indy's colleague--Professor Oxley (John Hurt) has been captured for his knowledge of the skull's whereabouts. Whatever secrets the skull holds are tertiary; its reveal is the weakest part of the movie, as the CGI effects that inevitably accompany it feel jarring next to the boulder-rolling world of Indy audiences knew and loved. There's plenty of comedy, delightful stunts--ants play a deadly role here--and the return of Raiders love interest Karen Allen as Marion Ravenwood, once shrill but now softened, giving her ex-love bemused glances and eye-rolls as he huffs his way to save the day. Which brings us to Ford: bullwhip still in hand, he's a little creakier, a lot grayer, but still twice the action hero of anyone in film today. With all the anticipation and hype leading up to the film's release, perhaps no reunion is sw! eeter than that of Ford with the role that fits him as snugly ! as that fedora hat. --Ellen A. Kim

5 star(s) - Indian Jones brilliant fun

This film appeared to have some pretty negative reviews; I wasn't sure but as I had seen all of the earlier films years ago, I thought I would give it a go. It was brilliant fun; completely over the top in true India Jones style and completely unbelievable. The special effects are fantastic. I've watched it a couple of times now and it just gets better. Fantastic fun. Roll on the next one!!!

5 star(s) - Excellent Indy adventure - as good as the other 3 - if not better!

Watched this movie last night, and pondered if it is actually my favourite of the four. Some people reviewing this film should really take of their rose tinted spectacles.

A - why shouldn't aliens be in the film?
B - Nothing on this film is any more far fetched than a 1 000 + year old knight, or basically the entire "temple of doom" plot for that matter.

Speaking as someone who loves ALL the Indy movies - the stunt sequences are every bit as spectacular as their predecesors.

I'm quite sure the film has flaws - (so do the other three) - it's just I enjoyed it so much I didn't really care.

If you like Indy and haven't seen it yet (which is bizarre in itself) you should LOVE this.Just be prepared to leave reality outside the room!So pleased they made another one(never thought they would), and I wasn't dissapointed.Looking forward to number 5.

5 star(s) - Indy's still the best at what he does after all these years!

We have had many films try and steal Indy's crown over the years such as Sahara, tomb raider, National Treasure, The Da Vinci Code and the Mummy films but they have all failed. 19 Years after the Last Crusade we at long last have the Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull to show all the pretenders how it should be done. Harrison Ford still looks and plays the role of Indy great at the age of 65 what a inspiration he is to us all. Shia Labeouf who was in the film Transformers is great as Indy's son and John Hurt who starred in the first alien film is wonderful to watch as normal. Cate Blanchett who was in the Lord Of The Rings trilogy makes a excellent villain and i must say that Ray Winstone who is most famous for playing in gangster films The Departed being one of them is jolly good too. The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull takes place in the 1950's during the cold war so are hero is taking on the Russians instead of the Nazis which makes sense as indy has aged of course. The story is very good with lots of action and i must say i for one thought the ending was tremendous too. For all those people that thought this film was unrealistic and over the top watch the original films again as the Indiana Jones films have always been far fetched, but for me that is part of the fun and why many people like myself love them. There are lots of special features on this blu-ray two disc to do with the making and the history of Indiana Jones which are all very interesting. The thx surround sound is amazing and the blu-ray transfar is spot on as was expected being a new release. Indiania Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull is a must have film.

5 star(s) - 10 days for...

pity: 10 days to receive it! but indy is still indy, I could cope with that!

5 star(s) - a blast

i've read a lot of reviews slating this film for being ott but what did they expect?it's an indiana jones film - pure escapism and not to be taken seriously.after the grim (but superb) dark knight this is a welcome alternative.yes its cheesy, and harrison fords looking his age but there's something magical about this film that takes me back to being a kid.the action scenes are terrific, special effects brilliant,it's just a blast and it looks cracking on bluray.
