- Fantastic HD Satellite receiver
I've used this card in my media center PC, which is running Windows 7 Ultimate, alongside a Hauppage NovaT-500 for regular Freeview reception. The card works beautifully, adding hundreds of satellite channels, including BBC and ITV HD, with no headache. Do download the latest driver and install that BEFORE you set up Windows Media Center if you go this route as it's easier than adding as you don't have to find the transponder scan settings then. The card works great and the additional channels are fantastic, especially since there's no monthly charge ala sky.
- Hauppauge Nova S2 and Nova T500 TV cards
I have recently installed both the Hauppauge WinTV Nova S2 and the WinTV Nova-500 cards in my HTPC. Both work very well with Mediaportal.
The WinTV software that is delivered with the Nova-T-500 card is fine if you want to watch TV on your PC but it isn't really up to using as a home theatre product. The DVB-T card also works well with MS mediacenter.
The S2 satellite card needs its own software. It comes bundled with Cyberlink Power Cinema 5.1 which is pretty poor and crashes if you try to tune to a HD channel. I tried a trial download of Power Cinema 6 which was much better and didn't crash but I really didn't want to pay for an upgrade when I have already paid for bundled software. In the event I opted for Mediaportal which is freeware and appears to knock the socks off both MS Mediacenter and Power Cinema provided you are prepared to spend quite a few hours setting it up. The Mediaportal software is great but the documentation hasn't quite kept up.
- All but the channel setup works very well
Installation and setup went very well until I had to install the patches for Media Center - this worked but downloading the channels, deleting all of the junk stations from the list and resetting the guide to the right channels was very difficult.
- A very good card.
After much technical comparison, and not finding any freeview HD cards available, I've opted for this.
Hauppauge are very well established in this field, if not the industry leaders.
To the card then.
Hardware wise this card needs a feed from your satellite dish, keep that in mind.
It's a typically well made and robust card, as you would expect from hauppauge.
The hand remote control is a welcome addition.
Picture ... absolutely rock solid.
HD Picture ... Outstandingly Good. (ITV HD, BBC HD, Luxe HD)
Channels... Not hundreds as someone reported if using the sky satellite but about 50+ (which are free to air). But that's good for free.
Software... Operation is Good, although it's a few seconds when switching between channels as it tunes for a second and buffers for a few.
Overall software is Good.
Recording ... very good indeed.
DOWNSIDES.
No tv listing capability, would have been nice.
it's available for those in america though, so it could be on the way.
It would have been nice to have the computer desktop area as the tv.
Its been done in DVD player packages. Isn't rocket science.
OVERALL.
I think this card is worth every penny.
Bare in mind, it's Aug 2010 we are at a transitional phase where Freeview HD is comming in and there are no pc cards to cater for it, this card brings hd onto your desktop.
I think this card is the ideal solution, There are other satellites that it can be pointed to for other channels.
- Good TV Tuner, Does what it says on the box
I have installed this tv tuner on my win7 (32bit) media centre computer, using my old sky wiring and dish.
The tuner works well, haven't found any compatibility issues with windows media centre yet.
NB: I haven't used this with the Hauppauge software...
